Hospitals in Beijing for International Patients
Beijing has some of China’s most important national referral hospitals, but an international patient needs more than a famous hospital name. You need the right specialty, a verified foreign-patient route, language support, appointment access, emergency information and a realistic pre-travel plan.
Can Foreigners Use Hospitals in Beijing?
Yes. Beijing has deliberately expanded foreign-language medical access. The city’s official Medical Guide for Foreigners states that, as of January 2025, 156 medical institutions provided comprehensive English-language services. The current guide separately highlights 17 major institutions providing full-process foreign-language services.
Beijing government figure for comprehensive English-language medical services as of January 2025.
The current city guide lists dedicated international departments, centers and major full-process foreign-language institutions.
Many major public hospitals have a separate international/VIP pathway with different booking, language and billing procedures.
Several international departments explicitly state that emergency services are not available, even when the broader hospital has emergency care.

Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH)
PUMCH International Medical Services
PUMCH is the clearest Beijing starting point when the case is medically difficult rather than tied to one narrow procedure. Its current English IMS page says the international outpatient clinic covers more than 30 specialties, provides expert appointments, commercial-insurance direct billing and 24-hour emergency care.
Fuwai Hospital for International Cardiology Patients
Fuwai Hospital International Medical Department
Beijing’s official foreign-patient guide lists Fuwai’s International Medical Department and identifies cardiovascular disease as its central clinical focus, including coronary heart disease, arrhythmia, hypertension, heart failure and valvular disease.
Beijing Tiantan Hospital vs Xuanwu Hospital for Neuroscience
The Beijing government describes Tiantan’s international outpatient department as a comprehensive clinic with neuroscience as its major specialty. It also publishes online follow-up options through the hospital’s official App / WeChat ecosystem.
Xuanwu Hospital
Xuanwu’s international department is another strong neuroscience route, particularly when neurological disease, neurointervention, rehabilitation or geriatric complexity is central to the case.
Peking University Hospitals With International Services
Peking University People’s Hospital
The official Beijing profile highlights hematology, thoracic surgery, rheumatology, obstetrics/gynecology and orthopedics. Its international department publishes phone, WeChat, email and commercial-insurance booking routes.
Peking University Third Hospital
Beijing’s profile says its international service has access to 27 national key clinical specialties, including sports medicine, orthopedics, rehabilitation, reproductive medicine, gastroenterology, gynecology, obstetrics, cardiology and ophthalmology.
Peking University International Hospital
This is a separate hospital from Peking University People’s Hospital and Peking University Third Hospital. Beijing’s official guide lists a dedicated International Medical Services pathway and a broad international-center specialty mix.
Other Major Beijing International Medical Departments
Beijing Friendship Hospital
The international center is useful when the case sits at the intersection of GI/liver disease, transplantation, kidney disease, infectious disease or oncology/hematology.
China-Japan Friendship Hospital
Beijing’s official guide highlights respiratory medicine, integrated Chinese-Western medicine, organ transplantation and comprehensive tumor treatment.
Beijing Chao-yang Hospital
Its International Medical Department emphasizes both common and complex disease, especially respiratory, OB/GYN, cardiovascular, general/specialist surgery and multidisciplinary expert consultation.
Beijing Jishuitan Hospital
Beijing’s government profile highlights four national key clinical specialties within the international-service route: orthopedics, hand surgery, burn surgery and sports medicine.
Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital
The government profile lists seven centers of clinical excellence, including hepato-pancreato-biliary, transplantation, cardiovascular, gastroenterology, neurology, orthopedics/sports medicine and ophthalmology.
Guang’anmen Hospital
This international department is relevant when the patient specifically wants a TCM or integrated Chinese-Western medicine opinion. It should not replace disease-specific standard oncology, cardiology, endocrinology or neurological care when those are the primary medical need.
What About Peking University Cancer Hospital?
However, Parkmega does not currently place it in the same “verified full-process international access” category as PUMCH, Fuwai, Tiantan or the other hospitals above. Its public website has international-cooperation and remote doctor-to-doctor consultation infrastructure, but we did not find a current Beijing government profile identifying a dedicated foreign-patient International Medical Department comparable to the hospitals in the city’s highlighted list.
Beijing Hospitals With Russian-Language Service Listed
This matters for many patients from Kazakhstan and other Russian-speaking countries, but the language listing should be interpreted correctly: it indicates language service within the international pathway, not that every specialist personally speaks Russian.
Russian listed
PUMCH’s Beijing government international profile lists Russian among its available service languages.
Russian listed
Especially useful if the medical question is neurosurgery, neurology or neuro-intervention.
Russian listed
Potentially useful for hematology, thoracic surgery, rheumatology and orthopedics.
Russian listed
Potentially useful for GI/liver disease, transplant, renal disease and selected oncology/hematology cases.
Emergency Care for International Patients in Beijing
24/7 International Medical Department Emergency Center
PUMCH’s official 2026 international pages state that the Dongdan IMS emergency center operates 24/7 and provides direct billing support for commercial insurance.
Emergency phone: +86-10-69155288
Emergency availability listed
Beijing’s current government profile marks emergency services as available for Fuwai’s International Medical Department. This is especially relevant for cardiovascular patients already under that service.
How International Patients Make Hospital Appointments in Beijing
Direct hospital booking
PUMCH, Fuwai, Tiantan, PKU Third, Xuanwu and several others publish official App or WeChat booking pathways.
International Service Beijing
Beijing’s official guide says the International Service Beijing mini program on WeChat/Alipay can be switched to English and used for outpatient appointments.
Phone / email booking
Some international departments publish a dedicated hotline or email. This is often the better route for a complex overseas case than blindly booking a general clinic.
Can Beijing Hospitals Review a Case Before Travel?
Sometimes — but “remote care” has several meanings, and the published pathway differs by hospital.
Online appointment
This only reserves a visit. It does not mean the doctor has reviewed the case before the patient flies to China.
Online follow-up
Tiantan publishes online follow-up functionality. Follow-up access may depend on prior registration or an established doctor-patient relationship.
Formal remote second opinion
Do not assume it exists for international self-pay patients unless the hospital or department confirms the record-submission and payment process.
Peking University Cancer Hospital, for example, publishes a remote medical service that is primarily described as a doctor-to-doctor consultation model. Parkmega therefore does not automatically present it as a direct overseas patient second-opinion service.
Commercial Insurance and Direct Billing
PUMCH publishes direct-billing support
PUMCH’s current IMS page states that direct billing with commercial insurance providers is available, including 24-hour direct billing at its international emergency center. Its detailed insurer list visible online is older, so current insurer participation should be reconfirmed.
Do not assume coverage from the hospital name
A hospital may accept a commercial insurer in one department but not another, or require guarantee-of-payment documentation before admission. Confirm both the hospital and insurer side in writing.
How We Choose Between Beijing Hospitals
Define the medical question
Diagnosis, pathology, imaging, symptoms, stage, biomarkers and prior treatment come before hospital reputation.
Match the department
PUMCH for broad complex work-up, Fuwai for cardiovascular, Tiantan/Xuanwu for neuroscience, or another specialty center.
Verify international access
Language, appointment route, doctor/team, emergency status, remote review and current availability are checked.
Get plan + logistics
Only then do we compare treatment proposal, expected tests, admission, deposit, insurance and travel timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions
Direct answers about hospitals, appointments, languages and international-patient access in Beijing.
There is no single best Beijing hospital for every case. PUMCH is a strong starting point for difficult multi-specialty disease; Fuwai for cardiovascular disease; Tiantan and Xuanwu for neuroscience; Peking University People’s Hospital for hematology and several other specialties; and Peking University Third Hospital for orthopedics, sports medicine, rehabilitation and reproductive medicine. The best choice depends on the diagnosis and exact treatment question.
Yes. Beijing’s official Medical Guide for Foreigners lists many public hospitals with dedicated international medical departments or full-process foreign-language services. Registration, language, payment, emergency and inpatient procedures vary by hospital, so use the hospital’s verified international pathway rather than assuming the ordinary domestic route works the same way for an overseas patient.
Peking Union Medical College Hospital is an important national referral option for difficult, serious and rare diseases. Its International Medical Services department covers more than 30 clinical specialties and provides a dedicated international-patient route. The exact department should still be chosen from the patient’s diagnosis and records.
Fuwai Hospital is a major cardiovascular specialist route and Beijing’s government guide lists a dedicated International Medical Department with cardiology and cardiac surgery services. The best team still depends on whether the case involves coronary disease, arrhythmia, structural/valve disease, heart failure, congenital disease or another cardiac subspecialty.
Beijing Tiantan Hospital and Xuanwu Hospital are two important international-accessible neuroscience routes. Tiantan’s International Medical Center emphasizes neurosurgery, neurology, neuropsychology and neuro-intervention, while Xuanwu’s International Medical Department emphasizes neurology, neurosurgery, neurointervention, rehabilitation and geriatric medicine.
Beijing’s government international-medical profiles list Russian among the service languages at PUMCH, Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Peking University People’s Hospital and Beijing Friendship Hospital. This does not guarantee that every doctor personally speaks Russian, so confirm interpreter support for the specific appointment.
PUMCH’s Dongdan International Medical Department publishes 24/7 emergency care for international patients. Beijing’s government profile also lists emergency services as available for Fuwai’s International Medical Department. In a medical emergency, do not delay urgent care to reach a preferred medical-tourism hospital; Beijing’s emergency medical number is 120.
Many international departments publish official App, WeChat, phone or email booking routes. Beijing’s Medical Guide for Foreigners also points to the English-language “International Service Beijing” healthcare service in WeChat/Alipay for outpatient appointments. For complex medical travel, confirm the correct department and case acceptance before treating a routine appointment as confirmation of treatment.
Some international medical departments provide commercial-insurance direct billing. PUMCH publishes direct-billing services, but insurer networks and authorization rules can change. Confirm the exact insurer, department, treatment and guarantee-of-payment requirements with both the hospital and insurance company before admission.
Some hospitals publish online follow-up, online consultation or remote medical-service options, but this is not one standardized citywide process. A formal international pre-travel second opinion should be confirmed with the exact hospital and department. Send pathology, imaging and a medical summary so the correct route can be identified before travel.

Verification rule: international-access details are based primarily on Beijing government or official hospital sources. Medical suitability still requires a case-specific review of the relevant department.
