Comparison, not a ranking

Cancer Treatment in China vs the US: Costs, Access and Treatment Options

China and the US are not ranked here. Compare a named treatment on approval, hospital access, a written estimate, and whether an international patient can actually be seen. NMPA approval and FDA approval are different facts. A trial listing is not routine care. A hospital reputation is not acceptance. Cost is case-specific, and this page publishes no savings percentage.

This check asks whether a named option is relevant to the file. ParkMega does not decide that China is the better system, reserve a bed, or promise a visa.

Compare the dimension, not the country

There is no overall winner on this page. A useful comparison asks the same question of both systems and stops when the evidence stops.

DimensionWhat to compareWhat this page will not conclude
Drug and regulatory availabilityWhether the named drug has an NMPA label, an FDA label, both, or neither. That one label makes the other country the better system.
Clinical-trial ecosystemWhether a trial exists and whether this patient can be screened. That a trial listing is eligibility or routine care.
Hospital and provider accessWhether a named department documents the service. That reputation is a bed.
International self-pay routeWhether an international office will take this file. That every public hospital offers that route.
Waiting and bookingHow the department books after it agrees to see the patient. That one country is faster.
Medical-record reviewWhat the hospital will read before travel. That a file review is a treatment plan.
Written estimatesAn itemized quote against a quote for the same plan at home. That the estimate is the final bill.
Language and international departmentsWhether language support is documented for that department. That every cancer ward has an English service.
Travel requirementsPassport rules and a realistic length of stay. That a hospital letter is a visa.
Insurance and paymentSelf-pay versus a plan that actually direct-bills that hospital. That a home insurance card works in China.
Follow-upWhat the home oncologist receives after discharge. That the China team becomes the home team.

Routine chemotherapy, CAR-T, stem-cell transplantation, and solid-tumor experimental cell therapy are different classes. CAR-T therapy in China stays on its own page. A trial-only program has to be labeled trial-only.

Where cost actually moves

Price follows the case: cancer type, stage, previous treatment, surgery, hospital stay, the chemotherapy regimen and the number of cycles, a targeted drug, immunotherapy, CAR-T or another cell product, radiotherapy, proton or heavy-ion therapy, an interventional or local procedure, molecular testing, PET/CT or other imaging, and international-patient services. PET/CT is not assumed for every cancer.

Verified figures and their limits are on cancer treatment cost in China. This page adds no tariff and no savings percentage. The request there is a case-based cost estimate.

What medical records are needed for cancer treatment in China?

Bring the documents the department names. The list below is typical. It is not a demand that every patient obtain a new PET/CT.

  • Pathology report
  • Pathology slides or blocks, where the department asks for them
  • CT, MRI, and PET-CT reports that already exist
  • Imaging files
  • Operation reports
  • Discharge summaries
  • Chemotherapy history
  • Radiotherapy history
  • Targeted-therapy and immunotherapy history
  • Molecular and biomarker testing
  • Recent blood tests
  • Current medications

Record contents stay out of analytics. Collection uses the current case-review handoff. The oncology checklist also sits on cancer treatment in China. The general travel checklist stays on medical treatment in China for international patients.

International patient journey

The sequence is records, then a relevant option, then review, then an estimate, then handoff. Skipping to a flight reverses it.

  1. 1. Send a case summary and records. Send the file the department asks for.
  2. 2. Records screening. Screening is not treatment acceptance.
  3. 3. Match a department. Match the question to a documented service.
  4. 4. Confirm international-patient access. Confirm it for this file, not from a ranking.
  5. 5. Medical review. The review belongs to the department that would treat.
  6. 6. Preliminary plan. Label it ordinary care, a named product, or a trial.
  7. 7. Written estimate. An estimate is not the final bill.
  8. 8. Appointment confirmation. Confirmation comes after the department agrees to see the patient.
  9. 9. Support documents, if that hospital issues them. A document is not a visa.
  10. 10. Travel and admission. Passport rules stay on the visa page.
  11. 11. Treatment. Treatment follows the accepted plan.
  12. 12. Discharge and follow-up. Going home does not transfer the treating team.

Provider acceptance is not visa approval. A review is not treatment acceptance. A price estimate is not the final bill. A trial that exists is not trial eligibility.

Entry rules and stay calendars stay on the medical visa page. This section is not a second visa guide.

Two centers, six fields, no upgrade

Only centers whose pages already separate capability from access are named. Empty cells stay NOT VERIFIED. Invitation status uses three labels: CAN ISSUE SUPPORT DOCUMENTS, CAN ISSUE ONLY AFTER ACCEPTANCE, and NOT VERIFIED. Neither center below is marked as able to issue a letter.

Fuda’s international-patient page and Modern’s international-patient page are not scored here. Open them for what they document. The hospital directory and the cancer-hospital comparison are the wider lists.

Questions people ask

Is cancer treatment cheaper in China than in the US?

Not as a rule, including when the other estimate is from the US. Compare a written hospital estimate with a written estimate for the same plan at home. Imported drugs, cell products, private wards, and long stays can remove any gap. This page does not publish a savings percentage.

How much does cancer treatment cost in China?

There is no single price. Verified figures and their limits stay on the cancer treatment cost page. This comparison does not add a tariff.

Can foreigners get cancer treatment in China?

Sometimes, when a named department accepts an international file. Reputation is not acceptance. Entry rules are a separate question and live on the medical-visa page.

What medical records are needed for cancer treatment in China?

A typical file includes the pathology report, slides or blocks if requested, CT, MRI, or PET-CT reports, imaging files, operation reports, discharge summaries, chemotherapy history, radiotherapy history, targeted and immunotherapy history, molecular testing, recent blood tests, and current medications. Not every case needs every item. PET-CT is not required for every cancer. Do not put record contents into a website analytics field.

Can a Chinese hospital review my case remotely?

Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center’s page on this site describes pre-arrival medical-file review. It does not verify a remote treatment plan. Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center’s page does not verify a remote treatment plan. A review is not treatment acceptance.

How do I get a treatment estimate from a Chinese hospital?

After records screening, ask the hospital or its international office for a written itemized estimate for a named treatment. The cost page explains what to separate. An estimate is not the final bill.

Do Chinese hospitals issue invitation letters for medical treatment?

Some hospitals prepare support documents only after they accept a case. This page has not verified that Sun Yat-sen or Fudan will issue a letter. A letter is not a visa. Consulates decide. The medical-visa page is the working text.

How long do cancer patients stay in hospital in China?

There is no universal length. The medical-visa page already separates a short review, surgery with early recovery, a daily radiation course, and CAR-T monitoring. A short transit entry is the wrong calendar for CAR-T or a radiation course. Ask the unit.

Can I continue follow-up after returning home?

Plan for it. Discharge instructions, the medicine list, and imaging should go to the oncologist at home. Returning home does not transfer the treating team.

Does China offer treatments not available in the US?

Sometimes a drug has NMPA approval without the same FDA label, and sometimes the reverse is true. A trial in one country is not routine care in either country. Approval is not hospital stock, and stock is not eligibility.

How do China and US cancer drug approvals differ?

The NMPA and the FDA are different regulators. A guideline recommendation, hospital availability, and a clinical-trial slot are three further facts. Approval in one jurisdiction does not imply approval in the other. Trial access does not imply routine commercial availability.
